Caleb Love recently injected some excitement back into the Michigan basketball fanbase when he committed to the Wolverines. After losing its top 3 scorers from a season ago, Michigan hopes to retool after the disappointment of the 2022-23 season. Let’s take a look a look at Caleb Love’s basketball journey thus far.
High School
Caleb Love attended Christian Brothers College (CBC) High School in St. Louis, Missouri, where he played as a point guard for the varsity basketball team. Over the course of his high school career, Love showcased his talent for scoring, playmaking, and defense. He was known for his quickness, athleticism, and ability to score from various spots on the court.
Love’s performance on the court earned him numerous accolades and recognition. He was named to the All-State and All-Conference teams and was a McDonald’s All-American in 2020. By his senior year, he was ranked as one of the top point guards in the nation and a consensus top-25 recruit.
Recruiting
Caleb Love’s impressive high school career led to interest from numerous prestigious college basketball programs. He received scholarship offers from various schools, including the University of Kansas, the University of Missouri, Indiana University, and the University of Louisville.
Ultimately, Love committed to the University of North Carolina (UNC) in October 2019. He chose UNC over other offers because of the strong basketball tradition, the opportunity to play under head coach Roy Williams, and the team’s prospects for future success. Love joined the Tar Heels for the 2020-2021 college basketball season.

College
In 3 seasons at North Carolina, Caleb Love showed his ability as scoring threat, scoring in double figures all three years. As a junior, love led the Tar Heels in scoring, but the team fell flat in the end. North Carolina missed the NCAA tournament, and experienced so much turmoil that prolific squad turned down their NIT invitation.
Juwan Howard and Michigan are no strangers to Caleb Love. The Tar Heels beat the Wolverines 80-76 last season in a non-conference battle, but that wasn’t the most interesting part of the story. At one point in the game Michigan freshman Dug McDaniel had to be separated from Love as tempers reached a boiling point.
Only time will tell if the 2023 rendition of Michigan basketball will find the chemistry needed to rebound from the woes of a season ago. If they are to bounce back, Caleb Love will certainly need to be a key contributor.
