Michigan’s 2023 spring football game is one week away. The annual maize versus blue showdown will happen on April 1st at 3pm ET. But I’m not fooling around during this April Fool’s festivity. Here are 5 players that every Michigan fan should keep an eye on during the 2023 Michigan spring football game.
Amorion Walker
Few players, if any, have drawn as much attention as Amorion Walker this offseason. The sophomore wide receiver made headlines recently when he made the jump to cornerback. Jim Harbaugh said he already considers Walker a starter on the defensive side of the ball. Mike Sainristil successfully moved from receiver to the secondary a season ago. Can Amorion Walker also seamlessly make the transition? We will know more after he suits up for the Michigan spring football game.
Darrius Clemons
Darrius Clemons was a 4-star recruit coming out of high school. Many thought he had the measurables and skillset to make an immediate impact at the wide receiver position. However, Clemons caught just one pass for seven yards a year ago. Cornelius Johnson’s return complicates things a bit, but no player is positioned better to take advantage of Ronnie Bell’s departure than Darrius Clemons. Michigan’s 2023 spring game may give us some indicators of how often Clemons will be thrown the ball this season.
ernest hausmann
One player that everyone is looking forward to laying eyes on during Michigan football’s spring game is linebacker Ernest Hausmann. Hausmann transferred from Nebraska after a dominant freshman season that included a 10-tackle game against Michigan. The linebacker position group is starting to look like one of the strengths of this team with Nikhai Hill-Green returning from injury, and Junior Colson and Michael Barrett coming back. Many believe that Hausmann may be the best of the bunch.
A week from tomorrow we'll be back in the Big House for our Spring Game!

Alex Orji
Wolverine fans reminisce about Robert Griffin III’s call from 2022 when he shamelessly yelled “there’s an Orji in the endzone!” Alex Orji, Michigan’s third (or fourth?) string quarterback has shown flashes of athleticism and brilliance. However, with the quarterback position firmly in JJ McCarthy’s hands, and transfer Jack Tuttle and walk-on Davis Warren likely taking the next two spots, it will be interesting to see how they get Alex Orji involved in the offense. During the 2023 Michigan spring game, I’ll be looking to see if they insert any packages that allow Orji to get out in space.
Derrick Moore
It’s not hyperbole to refer to Michigan as “Edge U” nowadays. The Wolverines have seen several edge defenders succeed across the college and pro landscape under Jim Harbaugh. The guy that is set up to make the biggest jump this season is Derrick Moore. He played in 14 games last season but was mostly relegated to limited action as a freshman. With Mike Morris and Eyabi Okie creating some space, Derrick Moore is positioned to become an impact player. I’ll be looking for him to make some big plays in the 2023 Michigan football spring game.
