1. Georgia
A single team emerged from the battles of week 10 as the obvious best team in the nation, and that was the Georgia Bulldogs. In the matchup of the week, Georgia manhandled Tennessee from beginning to end. With Clemson and Bama losing, the Bulldogs look to take the thrown atop the college football landscape. With a relatively easy remaining regular season schedule, Georgia has its sight set on the SEC championship and the one seed in the College Football Playoff.
2. Michigan
Michigan pulled away from Rutgers at the beginning of the second half and never looked back, winning the game 52-17. Many polls this week will have Ohio St firmly in the number 2 spot, but Michigan’s dominant win over Penn St, a team the Buckeyes struggled with, is enough for me to keep the Wolverines slightly ahead. Michigan will focus on beating a reeling Nebraska team this week, prior to ending the regular season with Illinois and Ohio St.
3. Ohio St
The Ohio St Buckeyes got caught off guard in extremely windy conditions this past Saturday when they played the 1-win Northwestern Wildcats. With their passing attack grounded, the game was tied at 7 midway through the third quarter. Ultimately, Ohio St managed to put a couple of late scores on the board to win the game 21-7. But this matchup was a little too close for comfort for Buckeye fans, and once again exposed some potential vulnerabilities for Ohio St.
4. TCU
No team benefited more from Tennessee, Clemson, and Bama going down than the TCU Horned Frogs. As one of the 4 remaining unbeaten teams in the nation, TCU deserves a spot in the playoff conversation. Some of them have been ugly, but TCU continues to stack up impressive wins. If TCU can find a way to escape the Big 12 unscathed, they will almost certainly find their way into the College Football Playoff.
5. Tennessee
Heisman hopeful Hendon Hooker and the Tennessee Volunteers have seen better days than this past Saturday. Their offense, which has been explosive all season, ran up against a brick wall when they faced Georgia. While Georgia was clearly the better team, Tennessee’s resume is still impressive enough to warrant a spot in the top 5 of this week’s NCAA Football Power Rankings. The Volunteers must win out if they are to make their first-ever playoff.
