Forever a Wolverine: Former Michigan Running Back Dies at Age 36

Mister Simpson, Michigan Wolverines

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mister Simpson, a beloved member of the Michigan Wolverines family and an exceptional football player. Mister Simpson, who hailed from Cincinnati, Ohio, was part of the Wolverines in 2005 and 2006. While Simpson’s on-field career at Michigan was limited, it’s important to remember that once you’re a Wolverine you’re always a Wolverine.

Early Life and High School

Mister Simpson was born on April 7, 1987, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Colerain High School, where he made a name for himself as a formidable football player. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 208 pounds, he played as a senior fullback and was also a participant in track and field. His junior year was particularly remarkable as he helped lead the Colerain Cardinals to an undefeated 10-0 regular-season record. During that season, he amassed an impressive 1,658 yards and scored 23 touchdowns. He was named 1st team all-city, 1st team all-Southwest Ohio, and 2nd team all-state. In addition to his achievements on the football field, Mister Simpson also ran track for the Cardinals, participating in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays.

His coach, Kerry Coombs, spoke highly of him, stating, “What separates Mister Simpson from other young men his age that have had similar success is his humility. He truly wants the team to succeed regardless of his individual accomplishments.”

College Career as a Michigan Wolverine

After high school, Mister Simpson gave an oral commitment to play for the University of Michigan. As a Wolverine, he was part of the team in 2005 and 2006. He was a three-star running back at the time of his commitment to Michigan. Even though his stats at Michigan were modest, with 2 carries for 11 yards, his presence and spirit were felt by his teammates and the Wolverines community.

A Wolverine Forever

Mister Simpson’s journey as a Wolverine was more than just about playing football. It was about being part of a family that values hard work, commitment, and camaraderie. The Michigan Wolverines community stands by the belief that once you wear the Maize and Blue, you are part of the family for life.

In Memory

As we mourn the loss of Mister Simpson, let us also celebrate his life and the positive impact he had on those around him. His achievements in high school and his time as a Wolverine will be remembered fondly. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Mister Simpson, you will always be a Wolverine in our hearts. Rest in peace.
