Michigan fans have been in off-season football heaven as of late, and Channing Goodwin just added to their euphoria. The 4-star wide receiver announced Sunday that he’ll be taking his talents to Ann Arbor. The Wolverines currently boast the number one recruiting class in the nation for 2024 and they don’t appear to be slowing down on the recruiting trail anytime soon. Goodwin became the 16th high-schooler to commit to the 2024 class, but this particular commitment added an element that Michigan needed desperately.
Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines have built back-to-back playoff teams with their “run the damn ball” mentality. While their gritty offensive lines and highly skilled running backs have been a thing of beauty, it’s left high school wide receivers wondering if Michigan is the best landing spot to rack up receiving stats.
JJ McCarthy’s recent performances have improved the appeal of the passing game, but the biggest boost to the potential Michigan air attack came from Channing Goodwin’s high school teammate Jadyn Davis. Davis, a 5-star standout QB, committed to Michigan last month. Now the Channing Goodwin commitment indicates that Davis and Goodwin could continue their on-field chemistry in Ann Arbor.

As a junior at Providence Day School, Channing Goodwin dazzled with 68 receptions, 962 receiving yards, and 15 receiving touchdowns. But he wasn’t the only target Jadyn Davis was slinging the rock to. Goodwin’s counterpart, Jordan Shipp, reeled in 62 passes for 1088 yards and 14 touchdowns. It just so happens that Shipp is also strongly considering Michigan, which could complete a Providence Day trifecta to jump-start Michigan’s future passing game.
Channing Goodwin is one of many Michigan recruiting dominos to fall recently, but he is important. The receiver position is the last remaining spot that the Buckeyes down the road can still confidently claim as superior talent-wise. However, the momentum appears to be growing in the Wolverine’s favor and it’s getting difficult to identify any weaknesses on this roster or staff.
