In the biggest game of the season, and perhaps the biggest game this millennium, for Michigan, they showed up ready to play. The Wolverines embarrassed the Ohio St Buckeyes to become East Division Champs for the second straight season. Michigan is now preparing for the Big 10 Championship game against Purdue, and most likely another berth in the College Football Playoff.
2. Ohio St
While Ohio St got trounced by Michigan, there is still no denying that their 11-1 record is good enough to land them in the number 2 spot of the Power Rankings. Their potent offense makes them a formidable opponent for anyone they may face in the postseason. Right now, the Buckeye’s best chance at a playoff appearance hinges on a TCU or USC loss this weekend.
3. Penn St
Penn St has seemed to settle into the perennial role of the third-best team in the Big 10 each season. While they dominated almost every opponent they faced this year, they could not get over the hump, losing to both Michigan and Ohio state once again. The Nittany Lions will most likely find themselves in a New Year’s 6 bowl game, which is not a bad consolation prize.
4. Purdue
The way the divisions are currently structured in the Big 10, being the best team in the West makes you the 4th best team in the conference. And that’s where the Boiler Makers fall this season. After Iowa stumbled against Nebraska, Purdue took full advantage of the opportunity and solidified themselves as the West division champs. They will take on the maize-hot Michigan Wolverines this weekend.
5. Iowa
All Iowa had to do to make their second straight appearance in the Big 10 Championship game was take care of business against a reeling Nebraska squad. Apparently, that’s easier said than done for the Hawkeyes. Iowa must now lick their wounds and hope to improve on offense between now and next season.
