The Wolverines complete the regular season undefeated for the first time since their national championship run in 1997. Their dominant win over Ohio St is the most impressive victory posted by any team this season. Michigan prepares to face Purdue in the Big 10 Championship game this Saturday in Indianapolis, but they will likely make the College Football playoff win or lose.
2. Georgia
The only team other than Michigan that is guaranteed a spot in the playoff regardless of outcomes this weekend is the Georgia Bulldogs. The defending national champs look to repeat their 2021 run and secure their position atop the college football landscape. After showing some vulnerabilities this year, they still hold impressive victories over Tennessee and Oregon and prepare to face LSU in the SEC Championship game.
3. TCU
Somehow the Horned Frogs have managed to stay undefeated after a plethora of close games during their Big 12 gauntlet. They’ve proven they can find ways to win in many different circumstances. TCU prepares to face Kansas St this weekend in the Big 12 Championship game.
4. USC
Lincoln Riley and the Trojans have found themselves in the driver’s seat as the only 1 loss team that appears to control their own postseason destiny. And to add to the excitement, it appears as though Caleb Williams is now the clear front-runner to win the Heisman trophy. USC just needs to avenge their loss to Utah to earn a spot in their first-ever College Football Playoff.
5. Ohio St
The Buckeyes are now on the outside looking in after getting trounced by Michigan. Their only hope at making the playoff rests on TCU or USC stumbling in their respective conference championship games, but even then they could find themselves left out. The Ryan Day-led team looked indecisive and out of sync against the Wolverines but remain a serious postseason threat with a high-powered offense.
