1. Tennessee
The Volunteers continue to build on the nation’s best resume heading into the release of the first College Football Playoff Rankings. While I doubt the committee will actually place them in the top spot, they fully deserve to be there based on their season thus far. Wins over Kentucky, Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Pitt earn them the top spot once again in this week’s NCAA Football Power Rankings.
2. Michigan
The Wolverines gritty win against their in-state rivals may have been over shadowed in the national media by the violent incidents in the tunnel, but make no mistake, this Michigan team knows how to control a game. With an offensive line and rushing attack that may be better than a year ago, and a top-5 defense in the nation, look for the matchup against Ohio St this year to have serious CFP implications.
3. Ohio State
The Buckeyes once again showed some vulnerabilities against a quality opponent this week. However, they finished strong for another impressive victory. Their high-powered offensive attack, led by CJ Stroud and Marvin Harrison Jr makes them a formidable opponent for any team to face. It will be interesting to see how their play style matches up with Michigan’s come November 26th.
4. Georgia
The reigning national champs have slowly slipped to the fourth position in the Wolverine Chronicle NCAA Power Rankings due to some inconsistent play throughout the year. But make no mistake, the Bulldogs are still very much in the conversation to repeat their 2021 campaign. We will find out what they are made of this upcoming week, as they take on Heisman front-runner, Hendon Hooker, and the Tennessee Volunteers.
5. TCU
Don’t sleep on the mighty Horned Frogs of TCU. They might not have a college football name brand on their helmet, but they sure as hell play like they have something to prove. With an undefeated record, wins against Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, and Kansas St, and an offense that’s scored 38+ points in every game, they’ve earned the right to be placed in the top 5 above perennial powers like Clemson and Alabama.
